European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) - expected mid-2025 ETIAS is the EU's new travel authorisation which you will need to apply for ahead of your travels. It is due to be introduced in mid-2025, but there is not yet an exact date as to when it will come into force. ETIAS will only cost 7 Euros, around £6. ETIAS is free for those aged 71 and over and valid for 3 years. There is one official website to apply for an ETIAS which is www.europa.eu/etias. However, as ETIAS is not currently operational, applications via the website are not yet live.
Holiday Itininerary
Day 1 We depart early morning from your local pick up point to Dover for the short ferry crossing to Calais. We make our way through Belgium to Germany and our overnight hotel in Saarbrucken.
Day 2 After breakfast we depart for Austria. Travelling through Germany to our holiday hotel in time for dinner.
Day 3 Lake Achensee
We make the most of our proximity to the boat pier, located just 450m from our hotel and, using our full day hop on/hop off ticket, enjoy a full day exploring Lake Achensee, the largest and deepest lake in the Tyrol. Our possible visits during today's sailing adventures include the upmarket resort of Pertisau where we may wish to embark on a scenic Karwendel cable car journey with amazing views over the lake.
Days 4 Ziller Valley Railway & Mayrhofen
This morning we make our way to Jenbach for a journey on the Zillertalbahn to Mayrhofen. As we travel in style, we marvel at the peaks and the jagged rocks of the scenery. (Please note, a steam engine is not guaranteed). Upon arrival in Mayrhofen we enjoy free time for lunch in our stunning surroundings, framed by the majestic Zillertal Alps. We may also wish to make the most of the local cable cars (not included) before returning to our hotel later this afternoon.
Day 5 We begin our day with a visit to the Tyrolean capital city of Innsbruck, surrounded by the jagged rocks spires of the Nordkette mountain range. We could choose to enjoy a horse and carriage ride through the streets of the old town to discover some of the most important sights, including the Hofgarten, the ornate 15th century Golden Roof designed as a royal box for the Emperor, the Column of Saint Anne and the Triumphal Arch. We then travel to the magnificent Tratzberg Castle where we learn more about the history of the castle, which is first mentioned in documents dating from the 13th century. After falling into ruin, it was rebuilt by the Fugger family and became a classic example of 16th century Tyrolean castles. Our visit here includes a road train journey to and from the car park and audio guides.
Day 6 Lake Tegernsee
Today we cross the border into southern Germany and head to the beautiful Lake Tegernsee in the Bavarian Alps. We embark on a circular lake cruise from Tegernsee Rathaus and make various stops on our scenic journey before arriving in Rottach. We enjoy free time for lunch here then re-join our boat for our return journey to Tegernsee. Back on dry land, we spend some time at leisure in Tegernsee, enjoying the lovely promenade and visiting the beautiful church and the famous Bräustüberl, a popular restaurant, brewery and shop specialising in homemade regional Bavarian delicacies.
Day 7 After breakfast, we begin our journey home heading back into Germany with our overnight stop in Saarbrucken.
Day 8 Travel back to Calais for our short sea crossing back to Dover and coach return to Chelmsford.
