National & Tate Britain Gallery

A morning visit to the National Gallery, which houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13^th century to 1900.  The afternoon is spent at Tate Britain, the original and oldest of the Tate network, having opened in 1897.  It houses a substantial collection of the art of the UK since Tudor times and in particular large holdings of the works of J.M.W. Turner who bequeathed his own collection to the nation.
