Steam, Craft & Tipples of Somerset

Holiday Itinerary

Day 1 After your early morning pick-ups, we head over to the west country stopping for coffee and lunch on the way, before continuing our journey south into the beautiful county of Somerset and arriving at our hotel late afternoon.

Day 2 Our excursion today begins with a visit to the ancient seaport of Bideford where it is market day. Browse the farmers market and enjoy free time exploring this town with its elegant Georgian buildings. Later we journey the short distance to Dartington Crystal. We enjoy a behind the scenes factory tour with skilled craftsmen demonstrating how they handcraft glass into luxury homeware items.

Day 3 We begin the day with a visit to the county town of Taunton where you are free to explore at your own leisure and have the chance to enjoy lunch. Our visit this afternoon is to Sheppy Cider producing cider here since 1917. We will enjoy a guided tour of the facility to learn what goes into producing this fine cider before enjoying tasting.

Day 4 After a leisurely breakfast this morning we travel west to visit the Victorian seaside resort of Ilfracombe, known as the jewel in the North Devon Coast. Discover a quaint quayside and harbour, whitewashed villas, lovely beaches, coastal paths and an abundance of cafes and shops. After lunch we journey the short distance to enjoy a steam ride on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. Board the heritage carriages as you enjoy a traditional steam ride through the rolling countryside offering picturesque views of the moorland and rugged coastline.

Day 5 Sadly we must leave Minehead and travel homewards, stopping for lunch along the way. We continue homewards arriving in the Chelmsford area in the early evening.
